Summary
Under general direction of the Systems and Network Operations Manager, installs,
configures, monitors, and maintains all types of network hardware and software. Provide
support to network users and other technology staff. Participates in the design of enterprise
network infrastructure and provides basic technical support that relates to networks, security
and connectivity.
Distinguishing Career Features
The IT Network Analyst represents the first level of a technical-to professional skill in a
technology career ladder governing network administration and data communications.
Advancement along this ladder can occur through mastery of network administration and
networking protocols. The IT Network Analyst is capable of basic network operations.
Requires the ability to know routers and switches, and to know TCP/IP addressing. Requires
the ability to diagnose network problems and perform remote diagnostics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Participates in the design and installation of Local Area Networks (LANs) and Wide
Area Networks (WANs). Configures, maintains and participates in the installation of
switches and routers, security applications, and network related software.

Assists in the implementation and maintenance of network equipment, including
Voice-Over-IP (VOIP), video surveillance equipment, and video conferencing,
network operations, work order generation, moves, adds, changes, trouble
detection/correction, and general maintenance.

Configures, installs, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains network devices, network
addresses, and network server software.
Ensures continuous operations and
security, responding to incidents as they occur.

Installs and configures networked computer users, e.g., computers, printers, modems,
cabling, and peripheral communications equipment. Installs software and configures
systems to support electronic mail. Troubleshoots mail access problems.

Sets up access limits to computer users according to the permissions established by
District administration and the Network Systems Administrator.

Provides technical assistance to staff on using computer and software programs
including remote access.

Assists in the implementation, configuration, and maintenance of the wireless
network. Configuration of users, access points, and related servers.

Utilizes network monitoring software to monitor the network and perform upgrades
to network infrastructure to ensure continuous operations, desired performance, and
service.

Assists in the creation of specifications, installation procedures, change order
processes and maintenance requirements

Enforces network system standards, protocols and procedural controls for operation
of the network systems.

Provides a range of troubleshooting to resolve network hardware and operations
problems, including but not limited to connectivity and internet access. Works with
fellow staff, equipment users, vendors, and independent contractors to identify and
resolve problems.

Using a variety of network test equipment, identifies and diagnoses problems, then
repairs, replaces and restores hardware and/or updates software.

Assists in the creation and maintenance of standard operating procedures, network
documentation including schematics, inventory records, configuration files and
reports.

Performs other related duties as assigned that support the objectives of the position.
Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills
The position requires a basic knowledge of the principles, practices, procedures, and
techniques used in personal computer based local and wide area networks, network
operations, and integration of data communications. Requires technical knowledge of
personal computer-based local area networks, network operations, connectivity between
servers, and integration of data and telecommunications. Requires a working knowledge
of the protocols used by the District. Requires a working knowledge of the commands
used for managing and manipulating routers, and switches; basic knowledge of the
physical elements of the network such as but not limited to the following: Ethernet
(100MB, 1GB, 10GB, etc.) Fiber Optic and copper cabling. Requires working knowledge
of networking protocols such as Ethernet, TCP/IP, Spanning Tree, and OSPF. Requires
sufficient human relations skills to conduct individual instruction and technical assistance
on the use and application of PC-based business and education, internet, utility, and
connectivity software. Requires skill at conducting in-service type training. Requires
sufficient writing skill to document technical procedures.


Requires ability to perform the full range of duties described above. Requires the ability
to discuss technical information with users and understand their needs. Requires the
ability to effectively work with individuals and groups utilizing tact, patience, and
courtesy. Requires the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working
relationships with others and convey technical and complex information to non-technical
users. Requires the ability to install, configure, maintain and troubleshoot equipment,
systems and programs used by the District. Requires the ability and willingness to
participate in cross-training with other department as desired to enhance skill sets.

Requires the ability to respond rapidly to operating and security problems, prioritize and
organize tasks. Requires the ability to read, interpret and apply complex technical
information. May require the ability to perform work assignments at all District locations.

Physical Abilities
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an
employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee
requires the ability to function in an indoor office environment engaged in work of
primarily a sedentary nature. Requires intermittent walking, standing, lifting, pulling,
pushing, and placing of medium weight materials (less than 40 pounds). Requires the
near-visual acuity to write and read written materials and computer screens. Requires
arm-hand-finger dexterity to use a keyboard and pointing device for operating a
microcomputer and connect wires and cables to equipment. Requires the ability to use
hearing and speech for personal and telephone conversations, hear sound prompts from
equipment, and to facilitate discussions with small groups.

Education and Experience
The position typically requires an Associate’s degree in computer information science or
related technical field, 3 years of experience in the setup of microcomputer workstations,
network operations, and personal computer technical support, and a certification or other
demonstration of competency.

Licenses and Certificates
May require a valid driver’s license.

Working Conditions
Work is performed indoors where minimal, yet some safety considerations may exist from
physical labor, positioning in cramped areas, and handling of light-to-medium weight, yet,
awkward materials.
