JOB PROFILE JOB STORE # TITLE: DATABASE ANALYST CLASSIFICATION: INFORMATION SYSTEMS 24 CONTEXT The DataBC program provides government wide leadership and technical expertise to establish, develop, implement, maintain, and promote the Open Data initiative and the Enterprise Spatial Data Infrastructure. Working for DataBC - Enterprise Data Services, Strategic Initiatives Division, this position reports to the Team Lead of Database, Middleware and Application Delivery Services. The job profile’s primary focus is on implementing, and maintaining a spatial database infrastructure to support the delivery of provincial geographic services. Oracle database administration and the monitoring and maintenance of data replications are some of the key areas of responsibility. Clients include the public users of hosted services, provincial Ministries, Crown Corporations, Commissions and Agencies who host data or applications at DataBC, vendors developing applications targeted for deployment in this infrastructure, the service desk, and Shared Services BC providing the underlying hardware upon which this infrastructure resides. JOB OVERVIEW To design, develop and deliver database and ETL administration services to Ministry clients. ACCOUNTABILITIES Required: Provides technical advice to, and participates in, project teams engaged in design, development, and implementation of database technologies to support client applications. Implements and maintains standards for databases and services including the physical design, installation, configuration, backup, security and operational procedures. Researches and evaluates new technologies and software releases and makes recommendations for the implementation of new features and upgrades. Configures and maintains multiple databases used by clients and controls application versions throughout the life cycle. Ensures appropriate database security and audit structures are aligned with business data privacy and integrity requirements. Conducts quality assurance of deliverables and completes application acceptance, test procedures and change control. Career Group: Job Family: Job Stream: Role: Revised Date: IM/IT Database Management Database Administration Professional June 2011 Monitors and diagnoses database performance, usage, replication and throughput statistics and provides technical solutions, or carries out tuning activities for application improvement. Administers the database design and deployment tool sets and consults with the software vendors on problems and deficiencies. Installs and tests upgrades, patches and fixes provided by the database software vendor. Plans, configures and tests new database software versions and assists with migration of operational applications to the new environments. Creates, configures and manages database backup and restore procedures, including periodic testing of the procedures to ensure data integrity. Monitors, maintains, troubleshoots and documents replication processes using several different technologies. Troubleshoots functional and performance issues in the database environment and liaises with clients to achieve resolution JOB REQUIREMENTS Degree, diploma, certification or three years equivalent experience in the computer science field. Two years experience with Oracle Database Enterprise Edition. One year experience with Oracle materialized views and database to database connectivity One year working with SQL and/or PL/SQL One year experience with Unix Operating Systems Knowledge of warehouse ETL design, data transformation and script development Knowledge of relational database systems, Structured Query Language, relational data modeling and data management principles, structured analysis and design, and documentation of business requirements. Willingness to provide on call 24-hour support during peak periods Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which may include a criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check, and/or enhanced security screening checks as required by the ministry (Note: It is important that you read the job posting carefully to understand the specific security screening requirements pertaining to the position).
