Roseneath Theatre – Spirit Horse bios – 2015 CREATIVE TEAM: Drew Hayden Taylor-Playwright/Adaptor During the last twenty-five years of his life, Drew Hayden Taylor has done many things, most of which he is proud of. An Ojibway from the Curve Lake First Nation in Ontario, he has worn many hats in his literary career, from performing stand-up comedy to being Artistic Director of Canada’s premiere Native theatre company, Native Earth Performing Arts. He is an award-winning playwright (with over 70 productions of his work), a journalist/columnist, short-story writer, author of 20 books, television scriptwriter, and has also worked on over 17 documentaries exploring the Native experience. He has traveled to sixteen countries around the world, spreading the gospel of Native literature to the world. Through many of his books he has tried to educate and inform the world about issues that reflect, celebrate, and interfere in the lives of Canada’s First Nations. Greg Banks-Director Greg Banks is an award winning director and writer who has been working in Theatre since 1979. His work has taken him from Singapore to Seattle via Moscow, New York and the Arctic Circle. Alongside his work for young and family audiences in the U.K., Greg has been working at theatres in the USA, where his directing work for the Minneapolis Children’s Theatre has included his own adaptations of ‘Pinocchio’, ‘Huck Finn’, ‘Antigone’, ‘Robin Hood’, and ‘The Jungle Book’ as well as productions of Romeo and Juliet, A Wrinkle In Time, Sleeping Beauty and Charlottes Web. His work is also regularly seen at the Seattle Children’s Theatre and the Arden Theatre, Philadelphia, who this year is producing the premiere of his adaptation of ‘The Jungle Book’ which was commissioned in Minneapolis. This is Greg’s third visit to Toronto to direct Spirit Horse and he is very happy to be back and to breathe new life into the play. A Craigslist Cantata (Acting Up Stage), Fiddler on the Roof (Western Canada Theatre), The Black Bonspiel of Wullie MacCrimmon (Globe Theatre), Cinderella – A RATical Retelling (Young Peoples Theatre), Hand of Bridge/Telephone (Canadian Opera Company), The Little Prince (The Grand Theatre), The Tempest (Canadian Stage). Costumes: The Rez Sisters (Factory Theatre), The Ends of the Earth (The Belfry Theatre), Minotaur and James and the Giant Peach (YPT). Robin is the recipient of three Dora Mavor Moore awards Glenn Davidson-Set Designer/Painter Glenn has been designing sets and lighting for thirty years, with over 400 productions to his credit. For Roseneath Theatre, he designed Health Class, Dib and Dob and the Journey Home, Napalm the Magnificent, and The Never Ending Story. Recent credits include; International tours of The Galileo Project and House of Dreams (Tafelmusik) God of Carnage (Sudbury Theatre Centre) and Card Table Artifice (Luminato). Upcoming projects; Stuff Happens (National Arts Centre) and The Dog and the Angel (Theatre Columbus). Anne Lederman-Composer Fiddler, singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer and storyteller, Anne was a founding member of Muddy York, The Flying Bulgar Klezmer Band, LOKA, and now Eh?! as well as leading her own groups, Come From Every Way and Fiddlesong. She has backed up artists as wideranging as Harry Hibbs, Margret Christl, Garnet Rogers, Holly Cole, Theresa Tova, Sifiso Ntuli and Njacko Backo. She has performed at festivals, concerts, dances and schools in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. Known especially for her work with Aboriginal fiddle traditions of her home province, Manitoba, her recordings of First Nations and Metis fiddlers have helped make this music known to the world. She has four recordings of her own: Not a Mark in This World, 7 Cats, Come From Every Way and Fiddlesong. Her newest recording, Eh?! (With James Stephens and Emilyn Stam) was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award in 2011. Dana Paul-Stage Manager Dana is thrilled to be working for Roseneath Theatre. She is a graduate of the Theatre Arts- Technical Production program at Sheridan College.
