Assignment Descriptions
Assignment # 1- Vocab and function
For all vocab on the big idea sheet, write out simple definitions in your comp book or on flash cards. Try to make your definitions no more than
3-4 words.
Assignment #2- Function of system
Write a paragraph explaining the functions of the cardiovascular system. Your paragraph should be 5-7 sentences long. Make sure you are not
plagiarizing from the book. Put the information in your own words.
Assignment #3- Heart diagrams
Label and color as needed.
Assignment #4 – Pathway of blood flow
In your comp book create a list of all of the parts of the heart that blood passes through in order ( you should have approx. 11 items in your
list). This is in list form. Start with the blood entering through the Superior and Inferior vena cava…
Example: 1. Inferior and Superior Vena cava
2. Right Atrium
3. Tricuspid Valve
4. ……..
5. ……..
Assignment #5 – Red blood cell travel guide
Use a creative way of telling the story of a day in the life of a red blood cell. The project must include all of the structures that Red blood cells
pass through, and how diffusion plays a role in their job. Possible project ideas:
1)
Children’s book
5) Amusement park map with ride descriptions
2) Comic Strip
6) Other (please get other ideas approved by Mrs.
3) Journal entry
Trujillo)
4) Travel brochure

Assignment #6 – Cow heart Dissection
Assignment #7- Blood pressure activity
Assignment # 8 – Literacy: Couch Potato and Activity Log
Part 1: Read the article and answer the following questions in your comp book.
1)
What are the health risks associated with watching TV?
2) What is the average amount of time Americans spend watching TV?
3) What indicators or data can be used to determine which group of people is most likely to have a higher risk of premature death?
4) Think about your lifestyle. What is your level of activity and general health and fitness?
5) Come up with 5 tests or ways you could monitor your own fitness levels. Explain how results from these tests may impact your
future decisions about your activity level.
Part 2: Conduct an investigation on your own fitness and activity level.
Steps:
1) Design a plan that would help you monitor your activity level for a week.
2) Use this plan, track your activity level, and report your findings. Suggestions: Use a pedometer, track heart rate
throughout the day, data table on time sitting, journal/ log activity throughout the day.
3) Analyze your findings. You should write about what happened, and what you can gain from the data you collected.
(you should write about a page)
Include the following questions in your analysis:
1. How do you think your activity level impacts your long term cardiac health?
2. What can you do to increase your cardiac health?
Assignment #9- Honors Only: Conduction color plate
