Email: [email protected]
Room: E-10
Introduction: Welcome to Coach Epps World History class. Over the course of this school year we will be
studying world history and geography. We will explore different times and places from prehistory to the end of
the Roman Empire using a wide variety of maps, articles, primary source documents, videos and direct
instruction. I hope you are as excited as I am to begin the new school year.
Materials: Students will need to bring paper and pen/pencil to class each day. Each student will keep a three-ring
binder so that they can keep up with study materials and notes. Binders will be checked before each test. This
grade will be worth 100 points.
Class Rules: Class rules exist in order to ensure an environment where everyone is safe and has an equal chance

They are to be turned off and put away in the student’s backpack or locker from 7:15-2:15 each day.
Grading:
The district’s grading scale is as follows:
A: 93-100
B: 85-92
C: 75-82
D 70-74
F Below 70
Participation Grade: Participation accounts for 20% of the 9-week grade. In order to earn full participation
points each 9 weeks, students need to ensure that they are participating in daily classroom activities in an
appropriate manner. Not participating in class activities, not completing/turning in classroom assignments, not
bringing materials to class, sleeping or disregarding class rules & procedures will result the student not earning
participation points that day.
Extra Credit: I understand that sometimes events occur that are outside of the student’s control. Because of this,
I will allow students two extra credit assignments per nine weeks. To earn extra credit, students will pick a world
history topic that falls in the time period from prehistory to the decline of the Roman Empire, research that topic
and write a 250 word report on that topic. Each report is worth 50 points.
Cheating/Plagiarism: Any form of academic dishonesty will not be tolerated. If a student is caught
cheating/plagiarizing, they will receive a zero for the assignment and be referred to the school administration for
disciplinary action.
Food/Drink: Students may not consume food, candy or soft drinks in the classroom. Students may drink water as
long as it is in a container with a lid. Students who have a cold may use cough drops.
Assigned Seats: Each student will be assigned a seat in class. Students not in their assigned seats when the bell
rings will be counted tardy.
Rewards for Good Behavior:
-Every student who demonstrates good behavior each week (zero checks in the behavior log) will be allowed to
bring a snack & drink of their choice to enjoy during class time on Fridays.
-Students who earn an “S” or higher in conduct each 9 weeks (0-5 Checks in Behavior Log) will be allowed to
participate in a class pizza party on the last day of each 9 weeks.
Fairness:
It is very important to me that my students feel like they are being treated fairly in my class. If a student feels like
they have been treated unfairly in my class, they are encouraged to leave a note on my desk with their name, the
date and the details of the incident so that I can have a chance to address any issues that might arise.
Web Page:
I will maintain a class web page where students can access all the information they need for my class at any time
