Bauxite is used to make aluminum cans for

Halite is the mineral name for salt we use to
season our food.
Limestone and gypsum are used to create
cement.
Goethite and magnetite are minerals that
contain a lot of iron and are used to make
steel.
Steel nails are coated in metals like zinc to
stop them rusting. Zinc comes from the
mineral sphalerite.
Copper comes from minerals like bornite and
chalcopyrite and it isis also used for electrical
wiring.
Quartz is used to make glass. It is melted
down, and mixed with other ingredients to
produce glass of many different sizes, shapes
and colours.
Batteries can be made of graphite, galena
and sphalerite.
Many house numbers are made from metal.
The ones in the picture are coated in a metal
called chromium that comes from a mineral
called chromite.
Illite is a clay mineral used to make ceramic
pots. The mineral vermiculite is used as an
ingredient in potting mix to improve drainage.
The fluoride in toothpastes is a chemical
made from the mineral fluorite.
Talc is used as a base for powders and other
types of cosmetic. Another mineral called
