Our Mining Company Problem 4: Summative Assessment Unknown Mineral Lab If you missed either October 24 or 25: Write out a Lab following the Lab Report Format describing how you would revise your previous lab (Problem 2) using new knowledge to identify your unknown mineral. Use Earth Science textbook, class notes, and resources on my website to draw a conclusion about your unknown mineral. Answer the reflection questions from Problem 4 to the best of your ability and justify your identification of the unknown mineral based on all information you currently have. You will complete this individually due to absences the day(s) of lab. This is a lab make-up assignment and will count as a test grade. Use the lab report rubric to guide your written work. Problem 4: Unknown mineral. Summative Assessment Objective: I can use new knowledge of properties of minerals to re-design my test from Problem 2 and determine what my mineral is. Instructions: Re-design your experimental tests from problem 2 using the same format and new knowledge to re-test and determine what your unknown mineral is. Draw a new conclusion and support your claim with data collected from your new tests. This lab must be taped or written in your science notebook. Lab Report Format Problem/Question: (Restate the problem this lab experiment is designed to solve) Hypothesis: Materials Procedure: (please list step by step instructions) Data: (collect data in an organized manner-table, chart, etc.) Conclusion: What is the identity of your unknown mineral? How do you know. Support your claim with evidence from your data and previous labs. Use specific vocabulary in your explanation. What was the most helpful, the least helpful in identifying your mineral? How does your new conclusion differ or is similar to your original conclusion?
