Text Set for Middle School Students Title of Unit: Using Young Adult Literature and Informational Texts to Explore Ancient Egypt Author: Bronte Tatum, Rockingham County Middle Grade: 6 Unit Summary Standards ( List Target Standards) Line of Inquiry (Essential Questions) Anchor Text (grade level complex text) This is a collaborative unit on the history of Ancient Egypt incorporating English Language Arts and Social Studies for Grade 6 students. In this unit students will explore a variety of resources to learn about Ancient Egypt. RH.6-8.2. Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions. RH.6-8.5. Gorgeously illustrated by Allen Garns, this book is for anyone intrigued by Egyptian history and the beginnings of King Tut’s incredible fame. 690 Nonfiction Biography Who was King Tut? by Roberta Edwards One of the youngest pharaohs is brought to life in Roberta Edward's biography of King Tutankhaman. Because Tut died at such a young age, little is known about his life or death, except what could be gathered from the contents of his tomb.
