The Role of Oil

has been fuelling the world economies for
more than 100 years and will remain the leading
fuel to satisfy global energy demand.

is convenient as energy carrier; for the
transportation sector there are no viable
alternatives.

is not infinite, but continuous technology
advances assure that there will be no supply
shortages in the foreseeable future.

is a valuable resource which shall be used in a
responsible manner.

The Role of OPEC
• 
OPEC emphasizes on the role of oil to support
sustainable development and to reduce poverty.
• 
OPEC is actively participating in the UN climate
change negotiations.
• 
OPEC will support development of environmentally
friendly technologies which address climate change
concerns and favour the efficient use of clean fossil
fuels, such as CCS.
