Calcium Regulation Calcitonin by Beatrice Totimeh Calcitonin is a hormone secreted by the thyroid gland when blood calcium levels rise. It promotes the uptake of calcium into the bones. The decrease in blood calcium levels creates a feedback loop that inhibits the release of calcitonin from the thyroid gland. This the action of calcitonin helps to regulate calcium homeostasis.
