Julie also likes to swim in a cool mountain stream. – Julie likes fishing and swimming in a cool mountain stream Gerund Phrases – Verb + -ed or –ing – Acts like an adjective – Example: The empire State building was constructed in one year and forty-five days. Participle Phrase • preposition + nouns – Example: Brown bears gather in groups. They gather around the banks of rivers. – Brown bears gather in groups around the banks of rivers.
