Second Trimester Music Reports 2007-2008
All Day Kindergarten
Our kindergarten students have been working on Rhythm Patterns that use
quarter notes, barred eighth notes and quarter rests. They use call and
response singing, the differences in dynamics of loud and soft, tempos of
fast and slow. They understand how music has form and know AB and ABA
forms and know the difference between beat and rhythm. We also sing many
seasonal songs that support our skills.
First Grade
Our first graders are reading and writing quarter notes, barred eighth notes
and quarter rests. They are able to identify forms AB and ABA in music.
They hear the difference between loud and soft dynamics, fast and slow
tempos and can respond correctly when using a call and response song. We
also sing many seasonal songs that support our skills.
Second Grade
Our second graders have been working with the musical staff which includes
the treble clef sign, repeat sign, double bar lines, line notes and space notes.
They are reading and writing quarter notes, two barred eighth notes and
quarter rest. They know the difference between rhythm and beat and we’ve
added the quarter note tie, the half rest and the whole rest. They are using
rhythmic ostinati which are patterns that are repeated performed along with a
melody. We also sing many seasonal songs that support our skills.
Third Grade
Our third graders have been working hard and presented a program to the
students at Foothills and to their friends and family on March 18th. They
have learned the difference between unison and harmony, melodic direction
by steps, leaps and repeats, and meter in two and three. They now know
what a bar line is in music, what a measure is, what a time signature is and
what a formata is. They have been introduced to the four barred sixteenth
notes. We also sing many seasonal songs that support our skills.
Fourth Grade
Our fourth graders have been learning to play the recorder. They now know
B A and G on the recorder. They know how to use four barred sixteenth
notes. They understand what a Rondo is – an ABACADA form in music.
They have been creating rhythm rondos. We have worked in the computer
lab with “Music Ace” software to build on our skills. We also sing many
seasonal songs that support our skills.
Fifth Grade
Our fifth graders continue to work on their recorder skills. They now know
B A G High C and High D. Students have been creating rhythm rondos
using quarter notes, half notes, eighth notes and quarter rests. We have
worked in the computer lab with “Music Ace” software to build on our
skills. We also sing many seasonal songs that support our skills.
