AP Environmental Science Ms. Laura Patch Fall 2016 Email: [email protected] 1st Block Phone: 884-4103 Ext. 6773 About Ms. Patch: The 2016-2017 school year will be my 11th year teaching at BHS. I majored in Biology, with an Environmental Science Concentration, and Secondary Education from the University of NC- Greensboro and received my M.S. in Science Education from Montana State in 2013. To support and guide student learning I often relate topics through my own experiences and interests, as my enthusiasm comes through with discussions, activities, or presenting relevant information. I believe in students coming to their own informed decisions by making connections and approaching topics with openness and curiosity. APES Course Description: The goal of the AP Environmental Science course is to provide students with the scientific principles, concepts, and methodologies required to understand the interrelationships of the natural world, to identify and analyze environmental problems both natural and human-made, to evaluate the relative risks associated with these problems, and to examine alternative solutions for resolving or preventing them. Environmental science is interdisciplinary; it embraces a wide variety of topics from different areas of study. Yet there are several major unifying constructs, or themes, that cut across the many topics included in the study of environmental science.
