Electrician
Job Summary
The Electrician repairs, maintains, and installs wiring, motors, transformers, generators,
lighting, and other electrical systems.
Nature of Work
This position typically reports to a Maintenance Supervisor, or other appropriate
supervisory or management position. This position requires knowledge gained through
prior experience in electrical trades or completion of an approved electrical apprenticeship.
This position is expected to perform various types of electrical insulations and repairs. This
job requires physical abilities such as trunk strength, manual dexterity, and wrist-finger
movement in order to perform the essential functions of the position.
Examples of Duties
The following list provides examples of the most typical duties for positions in this job
class. Individual positions may not include all of the examples listed, nor does the list
include all of the work that may be assigned to positions in this job class.
•
Installs, repairs, and maintains motors, transformers, generators, lights, appliances,
circuits, wiring, and other electrical system equipment and components in
compliance with electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
•
Operates a variety of electrical testing equipment in locating and determining types
of electrical malfunctions.
•
Studies plans, drawings, specifications, and work orders to determine work
requirement and sequence of repairs and/or installations.
•
Repairs and maintains high voltage systems.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Completion of an approved electrician apprenticeship program; or a high school diploma
and three years of appropriate experience. Appropriate vocational/technical training may
substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Special Working Conditions
Working conditions include restricted movement, dirty environment, hazardous materials,
lifting and carrying heavy objects. In addition, this position may be required to come into
work on weekends, holidays and in emergency situations (i.e., may be subject to “on-call”
responsibilities).
