USF Job Class Description JOB CODE: 6445 JOB TITLE: High Voltage Electrician PAY PLAN: 23 CAREER BAND: D FLSA: Non-Exempt CBU : 31 Effective 04/20/2007 Job Title: High Voltage Electrician Job Summary The High Voltage Electrician maintains the high voltage electrical distribution system to ensure uninterrupted power supply to all facilities and buildings on the University campus. Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains components associated with the system. Nature of Work This position typically reports to a Utilities Supervisor or other appropriate supervisory or management position. This position is expected to perform installation, repair and maintenance of high voltage electrical distribution systems and components. This position requires knowledge gained through prior experience in electrical trades or completion of an approved electrician apprenticeship program or vocational/technical training program. This position requires physical abilities such as trunk strength, manual dexterity, and wristfinger movement in order to perform the essential functions of the position. Examples of Duties • Install and maintain the high voltage distribution system. • Perform backup on distribution system feeders with other feeders through switches and transformers. • Perform preventative maintenance on switches and transformers. • Troubleshoot electrical problems with street and parking lot lighting systems and repair to ensure continual operation. • Complete dig permits on the distribution system and street and parking lot lighting systems. • Install, troubleshoot electrical problems, and repair traffic signals. • Troubleshoot and repair electrical problems at lift stations by megging motors and checking fuses, floats, and control circuits. • Troubleshoot and repair chillers and boilers by megging motors and checking fuses, voltages, amperages, and breakers; terminate feeders to chillers and boilers. Minimum Qualification Requirements Completion of an appropriate approved electrician apprenticeship program; or a high school diploma and four years of electrical related experience, one year of which must have been in high voltage. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. The position requires possession of a valid Florida Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL). Special Working Conditions Working conditions include exposure to high voltage electricity and hazardous materials and fumes, elevated areas (i.e., over six feet), outdoor weather conditions, restricted movement and confined spaces, dirty environments, noisy environments, and lifting and carrying heavy objects. In addition, this position may be required to work on weekends and holidays and in emergency situations (i.e., may be subject to “on-call” responsibilities).
