Application of HPLC for genetically modified food control
Tetyana Gilevska
Genetically modified organism is an organism whose genetic material has been
altered using genetic engineering techniques. In this lecture I would like to overview general
information about GMO (genetically modified organism): reasons for modification, benefits
and controversies, public opinion.
Biological methods (immunodetection and tests based on nucleonic acid) are most
common to control GMO but chemical method are also used, among them HPLC. Flavonoids
are polyphenolic plant compounds famous for health benefits. I will show several examples of
application of HPLC for determination of flavonoids in genetically modified food.
