Cells
Why are cells so similar yet very different?
Cells are the building blocks
for life!
• All living organisms are made of at least one cell
• Many = multicellular
• One = Unicellular / single cellular
• All cells come from other living cells
• Prokaryote – a cell that has neither a distinct nucleus
with a membrane nor specialized organelles
• Eukaryote – a cell in which the genetic material (DNA)
is found inside a membrane bound nucleus and has
specialized organelles
Cells are the basic unit of Life
• Cells of the same function group together to form
• Tissue – tissue forms
• Organ – organs form
• Organ systems – which work together to form
• An organism!!!!
What determines the structure of
a cell?
• It’s function in the organism
