One of the largest health systems in Illinois, based in downtown Chicago is building a population health analytics team. The population health analytics team will develop, implement, and coordinate system wide analytics that promote and support the adoption of population health management. This team will be instrumental in building a system for data aggregation, measurement, analysis and reporting to support improvement and redesign. Senior Population Health Statistical/Actuarial Analyst SUMMARY Design, develop, implement, and coordinate system-wide analytics and reporting that promotes and supports the adoption and successful execution of population health management. Develop and implement the financial, clinical, and operational analytics and reporting required to support the Healthy Start Medicaid ACE program, Medicare Value Partners ACO, commercial ACOs, and other population health programs. Help to build and improve systems for data aggregation, measurement, and analysis. Provide recommendations for improving analytic and reporting tools and processes, to more effectively support population health. Effectively collaborate with team peers, other Enterprise Analytics team members and partners throughout the business. Communicate effectively within informal and formal channels, including written communications, presentations and informal communications with peers, management and business partners. Develop data expertise needed to optimally use business and other data to support population health reporting and analytics tools and processes; includes expert data knowledge, quality control and following appropriate standards. Design and execute complex, advanced analytic studies and analyses required to support population health initiatives. Execute analytic processes required to support population health at the health system, including but not limited to case-mix adjusted physician profiling; operational, quality, cost and utilization analytics; risk analytics; trending and forecasting; predictive modeling; program evaluation using advanced techniques; actuarial analyses; and data mining. Acquire expert knowledge of the organizations business, health systems and population health systems and processes, as required to support population health reporting. Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written/spoken), quantitative, computational and analytical skills, and attention to detail to effectively disseminate essential analytic information throughout the health system at multiple levels: a. Internal: Department management, clinical staff, multi-disciplinary teams, Information Services, and executive management. b. External: Other healthcare systems/organizations, system vendors, database organizations, healthcare benchmarking agencies, Regulatory Agencies, and Health Care Institutions and Associations. Understanding of data/information management in a healthcare environment. Expert knowledge of relational databases. Proficiency with programming languages such as Visual Basic, SAS and/or SQL (or equivalent) preferred. Experience designing and executing customized advanced analytic/statistical studies and analyses, involving techniques such as predictive modeling, regression, data mining, program evaluation (using observational as well as experimental approaches) and forecasting. Experience executing advanced statistical and/or actuarial analytics. Demonstrated ability to effectively explain complex analyses and results in a fashion that is meaningful and understandable to a wide range of audiences, including non-technical staff. Handles multiple and potentially conflicting assignments, demands and priorities to meet deadlines. Experience with validating data and results and executing quality control processes. Demonstrated experience in discussing/evaluating data with all levels of leadership, as well as teaching peers data analytics. Experience implementing analytics results or otherwise translating analyses into business actions to create value. Experience working with teams as members and leaders. Deals effectively, calmly, and professionally with conflict-related and/or emotional situations. Treats everyone with respect and professionalism at all times in all interactions, both written and verbal. Ability to travel within the health system to various corporate offices, ministries, and other non-acute care facilities. Education and/or Experience Bachelor’s degree in quantitative, scientific, business and/or healthcare fields required. Master’s degree or PhD in quantitative, scientific, business and/or healthcare fields, or Actuarial credentials, strongly preferred. Two years of applied statistical and/or actuarial work experience (experience within business and/or healthcare environments preferred) Demonstrated ability to independently and appropriately design and execute either: 1) complex statistical analyses to support business objectives, or 2) actuarial analyses. o Experience with healthcare informatics, computer programming, and value based care models (for example, ACOs, medical homes, bundled payments, capitation or shared risk arrangements) preferred. o Experience with advanced analytic techniques such as predictive modeling, program evaluation (observational and experimental approaches), case-mix adjusted provider profiling, data mining and forecasting preferred. o Experience using tools such as SAS, R or SQL to produce analytic/reporting results based on large and complex data (either hands-on experience or experience closely managing staff in these tasks) preferred. Experience working on analytics projects related to medical management, population health, health insurance, value-based care or clinical quality preferred. Computer Skills 1. Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook to conduct and report out complex data analyses. 2. Experience with statistical and analytic programming tools such as SAS, R or SQL (or equivalent) preferred 3. Advanced to expert knowledge of healthcare reporting tools such as Optum Impact Intelligence or Truven Advantage Suite preferred 4. Ability to operate a computer, its applications, accessories, and all associated peripheral equipment (copiers, scanners, faxes, etc.) to properly perform everything outlined, where applicable, in the position’s qualifications.
