Nicholette D. Allred, PhD
Associate Professor, Department of Biochemistry
Dr. Allred is a molecular biologist with a research focus on
understanding the genetic architecture of complex diseases and
underlying risk factors in minority populations. With an emphasis on
metabolic disease, her research concentration is on diabetes, obesity,
liver disease, nephropathy, and cardiovascular disease. She was
awarded a K99/R00 Pathway to Independence award which advanced
her expertise in the areas of high-throughput genotyping technologies
and quantitative intermediate phenotype analysis and interpretation.
Focused on the genetic contributors to glucose homeostasis, Dr.
Allred has been involved in GUARDIAN and the predecessor,
IRASFS, for over 15 years. More recently, she has begun to explore
the area of metabolomics in the context of metabolic disease.
