Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology 2nd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University Prague POSTGRADUATE POSITION AVAILABLE Childhood Leukemia Investigation Prague working group is looking for a PhD student. The candidate is expected to possess experience in molecular and cellular biology, as well as motivation, work ethics, independence, intellectual initiative and dedication. The project is focused on the metabolic program of leukemic cells. Cancer metabolism is a highly current topic and it is hard to overstress its importance for the understanding of variable sensitivity of patient blasts to therapy, drug efficiency and development of resistance. The main substance - the metabolic effects of which have been subject to our research for quite some time - is the L-asparaginase, a crucial component of the childhood ALL treatment protocol. Currently, it is being introduced into the treatment of adults as well. Our project utilizes in vitro and in vivo models, genetic engineering, the newest detection methods in metabolomics or measurement of metabolic pathways. The project is pursued in close cooperation with the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic as well as with researchers abroad. Deadline for application is 30th of April 2016.
