Associate in Structural Virology
CONTRACT TYPE
12 months, with possibility for extension depending on performance
FACULTY
Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC), Masaryk University
STARTING DATE
flexible, ideally June 2016
Job description:
We are seeking a post-doctoral scientist to join the Laboratory of Structural Virology in CEITEC (http://www.ceitec.eu/ceitec-mu/
structural-virology/rg61). We use molecular biology, X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy/tomography, and focused
ion beam milling to determine three-dimensional structures of viruses and study their interactions with infected cells. We aim
to provide structural information for development of anti-viral drugs. We study viruses from families Picornaviridae including
human rhinoviruses type C and Flaviviridae including tick borne encephalitis virus and zika virus. We also have a project focused
on structural characterization of bacteriophages infecting pathogenic bacteria. The position is not associated with any teaching
obligations.
Requirements:
Successful candidate must hold a PhD degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, or structural biology. The applicant must have
demonstrated ability to independently pursue on his/her research projects and write manuscripts. Previous experience with
molecular cloning and purification of macromolecules is essential. Positive attitude towards programming, scripting, and Unixbased systems is desired. Knowledge of structural biology and tissue culture methods is a plus but not required.
Research group and equipment:
Our lab is part of Structural Biology program at CEITEC. We have access to state-of-the-art cryo-electron microscope Titan
Krios, dual beam microscope Versa 3D and robotic equipment for crystallization and X-ray data collection. The group includes
a technician to assist with routine laboratory tasks.
Pavel Plevka – the head of the Structural Virology group is holder of ERC-Starting grant.
To apply please send CV including contacts on two referees and a full list
of publications to Pavel Plevka ([email protected]).
