Dear Parents and Carers,
Year 6 trip to the Imperial War Museum
We are excited to inform you that our Year 6 will be going on a trip to the Imperial War Museum in Cambridge on
Tuesday 28th March 2017.
The bus will leave school at 8:00am so please ensure that children are on site by 7:40am, and note that we will not
wait for latecomers. Year 6 will return to school at approximately 3:30pm. Normal school uniform, sturdy footwear and
with a waterproof coat is expected.
Your child must come with a packed lunch and a drink (no fizzy drinks) – If you have already ordered a hot meal this
will automatically be substituted for a packed lunch by Willoughby Foods, so there will be no need to prepare one for
your child.
If your child requires travel sickness tablets for the journey, please hand them to a member of staff on the day of the
trip. These must be clearly named, along with the full packaging and information leaflet, and your written authority and
instructions for their use. If your child requires an inhaler for asthma please ensure they have it with them and inform a
member of staff.
The cost of the trip will be £6.80
Under the requirements of the Education Reform Act 1988 we can only raise the cost of the trip by voluntary
contribution. There is no obligation to contribute and children will not be treated differently according to whether or not
any contribution is made. However, the trip can only go ahead if the level of support is sufficient. In the past the
school has had to partially fund the cost of trips when parental contributions have not been sufficient to cover the total
cost of the trip. Given the financial constraints we currently face, I must advise you that if parental contributions do not
cover the cost of the trip it will be cancelled. We will allow two weeks from the date of this letter for contributions to be
made, at that point the situation will be reviewed. Therefore I ask that your contribution is given to the school office by
no later than 13th March 2017, in a named and sealed envelope. Cheques should be made payable to St Thomas CE
Primary School.
The school reserves the right to prevent a child taking part in an educational visit due to inappropriate behaviour as
outlined in the Behaviour Policy. Parents may not receive a refund if the costs for the trip cannot be recovered by the
school.
If you have any question regarding this specific matter, please see your child’s teacher in confidence.
Yours faithfully,
Miss J Sharples
Head of School
