SUGAR: What it’s doing to your students History of Refined Sugar Consumption ● In the 1700’s, average person consumed 4 lbs per year ● In the 1800’s, average person consumed 18 lbs per year ● In the 1900’s, average person consumed 90 lbs per year TODAY The average American consumes between 150 to 170 pounds of sugar a year That’s 2-3 pounds of sugar a week.
