SELL-OUT PRODUCTION OF
PEOPLE, PLACES AND THINGS
TRANSFERS TO THE WYNDHAM’S THEATRE IN THE
WEST END
People, Places and Things, the highly acclaimed production of Duncan Macmillan’s
intoxicating new play will transfer to the West End’s Wyndham’s Theatre from 15 March
2016, with a press night on Wednesday 23 March.
Tickets go on sale to the public on Thursday 22 October 2015.
Denise Gough will recreate her ‘career defining performance’ as Emma, an actress whose
life has spun recklessly out of control because of her addiction to drink and drugs.
Directed by Jeremy Herrin, and currently at National Theatre’s Dorfman Theatre where it
continues its sold out run until 4 November, it is the latest collaboration between Headlong
and the National, following Mike Bartlett’s Earthquakes in London and Lucy Prebble’s The
Effect.
The set is designed by Bunny Christie, who won Olivier and Tony Awards for the National
Theatre’s production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Costumes are by
Christina Cunningham, lighting by James Farncombe and sound by Tom Gibbons.
Alongside Denise Gough in the central role are Jacob James Beswick, Alastair Cope,
Jacqui Dubois, Sally George, Barbara Marten, Kevin McMonagle and Laura Woodward
Emma was having the time of her life. Now she’s in rehab. Her first step is to admit that she
has a problem. But the problem isn’t with Emma, it’s with everything else. She needs to tell
the truth. But she’s smart enough to know that there’s no such thing.
When intoxication feels like the only way to survive the modern world, how can she ever
sober up?
Duncan Macmillan’s plays include Every Brilliant Thing (Paines Plough/Pentabus,
Edinburgh, UK tour & New York), George Orwell’s 1984 (adapted with Robert Icke,
Headlong/Nottingham Playhouse/Almeida/West End), Lungs (Paines Plough & Sheffield
Theatres, Washington DC), Don Juan Comes Back From the War (Finborough) and Monster
(Royal Exchange, Manchester).
Jeremy Herrin is Artistic Director of Headlong. His recent work includes This House for the
NT, The Absence of War (Sheffield/national tour), Wolf Hall/Bring Up the Bodies for the RSC
and The Nether (Headlong/Royal Court/West End). Jeremy is directing a new production of
Noises Off in New York for Roundabout Theatre Company, opening in January 2016.
People, Places and Things in the West End is produced by the National Theatre in coproduction with Headlong and National Angels.
American Express is the National Theatre’s Preferred Card Partner
Original production sponsored by Neptune Investment Management
