Chapter 3 Section 1 vocabulary
1. Crust – Crust is the outermost layer of the Earth. The two types of
crust are oceanic (under water) and continental (land). It is the
thinnest layer and the one we live on.
2. Mantle – The mantle is the layer of Earth between the crust and
core. It is very thick and contains most of the Earth’s mass.
3. Core – The core extends from the bottom of the mantle to the
center of the Earth.
4. Rigid -unable to bend or be forced out of shape; not flexible.
5. Viscous-having a thick, sticky consistency between solid and liquid
