MICROSCAN GRAM POSITIVE CONVENTIONAL MIC PANELS
Combating antibiotic-resistant bacteria:
the Microbiology lab answers the challenge
There has been an alarming increase in antibiotic-resistant infections, both in the United States and
worldwide. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) outbreaks have been reported by
the media for more than a decade. In early 2015, a presidential task force released the National
Action Plan for Combating Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria. The goals and strategies outlined in this
document are intended to significantly reduce the incidence of urgent and serious threats, including
MRSA, by 2020.
New! Ceftaroline and Tigecycline now available
MicroScan is the first to offer ceftaroline on an automated susceptibility panel. Unlike most previous
cephems, ceftaroline† is able to bind to and inhibit altered penicillin-binding proteins associated with
resistance to ß-lactam drugs, making it the first drug in its class approved for treatment of MRSA in
acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI). Tigecycline‡, a glycycline antibiotic, is not
affected by the two major in-class resistance mechanisms, ribosomal protection and efflux, and has
demonstrated activity against a broad spectrum of bacterial pathogens including MRSA. Including these
advanced-generation antibiotics can augment your testing menu and help improve workflow efficiency in
your laboratory by:
» Expanding your capabilities for treating MRSA
» Enhancing your microbiology testing menu
» Reducing supplemental testing costs
MicroScan MIC Panels
For over 30 years, MicroScan panels have provided gold-standard bacterial
identification and susceptibility products, confronting emerging resistance
with first time results and accuracy. The first vancomycin-intermediate and
vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolates were detected during
routine testing on MicroScan Systems.1, 2 Now with the adoption of MALDI
technologies, there is even more interest in complementary MIC panel
options. Integration of rapid MALDI-TOF identifications with the accuracy
of MicroScan MIC results, provide best-in-class technologies to support
antimicrobial stewardship programs and ultimately, patient care goals.
Count on MicroScan for unmatched experience, expertise, and selection.
