DIRECTION The recent universal and historic Paris Accord, after a decade of disagreement and discord, was recognition of the serious issue of Climate Change. The Paris Accord of December 2015 promises a new direction, particularly on emissions. In reality it is hailed as a step forward for humankind with 195 nations pledged to legally accept the binding agreement to hold global temperature to “maximum rise of 1.5 Centigrade above preindustrial levels.” The Paris agreement, while ambitious, is not a perfect document. It is considered a pragmatic first step in breaking the uncontrolled use of fossil fuel and provide a reduction in carbon emission to encourage an increase in the renewable energy economy. Global and Multicultural Education, from its inception in 1982, participated in activities arranged by various environmental groups, with active participation in environmental events arranged at the Municipal Auditorium, Kansas City, Kansas; EPA events; plus an exhibit at the Kansas City Zoo. Global and Multicultural Education’s (G.A.M.E.) board and director sponsored the Global Environmental Project, funded by the Kauffman Fund, for classroom teachers in public and charter schools, with financial incentives for classroom teachers to purchase materials and teach a unit on global warming issues. The Image from United Nations G.A.M.E. board of directors coordinated a program funded by the EPA information page and gave graduate credit at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). This was a two week project for teachers and graduate students with interest in environmental issues. G.A.M.E.’s Global Environmental project was to help the future generation of students become aware and involved in the environmental need to protect our future. With all nations of the world recognizing the seriousness of climate change, we are looking for members and supporters who are interested to join us and find a new approach for our past project that was very effective and far ahead of its time. If interested, contact <[email protected]>. Internationally Speaking ….. Did you know? Paris climate change agreement was called “A health insurance policy for the planet.” “Victory for people, for common good, and for multilateralism.” “It marks a decisive turning point in the global quests for a safer, more sustainable and prosperous future.” Global Concepts volume 34, no.4 Winter 2015 p. 3 STEERING COMMITTEE UPDATE on HUMAN RIGHTS 2016 PROJECT!
