Propaganda Projects Assignment Project One Overview Your mission is simple: to free the world from mind control by teaching others about the techniques involved in modern propaganda. Using all of the resources you have available, go find and collect examples of propaganda in the real world. You'll need to identify and explain the techniques involved in each example. The requirements for your project are outlined in detail below, but you may choose from a number of different ways to put your project together. Types of Presentations You may do your presentation as a PowerPoint (OpenOffice Impress) slide show A digital poster (you may use Writer/Word, LiveBinders, or Glogster) A real poster presentation on poster or display board A trifold pamphlet If you want to use a format not listed above, I'll be happy to discuss it with you. Project Description and Instructions After choosing the kind of presentation you would like to create, you'll need to hunt around to collect examples of propaganda. You may cut out examples you find in printed media (magazines, newspapers, fliers, etc), or clip them from the web (save them in a folder labeled “Propaganda clips” in your “My Documents”). With each example, you are to: Identify the technique(s) being used Identify the purpose for the propaganda Identify the audience for whom it's intended Provide a written explanation of how the example fits the technique you claim it to represent. After you have identified examples of at least eight different propaganda techniques, you will assemble them into your presentation. We'll be using a couple of class periods to work on this, but you will probably have to work from home some as well. There are numerous resources available in the classroom and from my wiki that will be helpful, from reminders of different kinds of propaganda techniques to resources you can use to find propaganda. Project Two Update your dream job brochure using at least six different types of propaganda. After updating your brochure, you’ll need to save it with the same file name you used the first time, except with the number two at the end instead of the number one. Also, you’ll need to identify and explain, in a separate document, the propaganda techniques you used in each panel (one paragraph per panel) and why you chose those particular techniques (why you thought they would be effective for your message and audience). Project Three Analyze your brochures for effectiveness at communicating information and for effectiveness in persuading your intended audience. Three parts: 1. Complete a double bubble map comparing and contrasting the two brochures 2. Write a short (three paragraph) compare/contrast essay on the brochures 3. Present your projects to the class, with an spoken explanation of how the use of propaganda techniques affected your brochure. Prizes will be awarded in each class in the following categories: Best overall propaganda collection project Best overall brochure Most improved brochure The winners of each prize will receive one very large candy bar, or one small bag of chicken feet or fried eggs (winner’s choice).
