The numerator is the number of equal parts being considered. The denominator is the number of equal parts in the whole. Types of Fractions Proper fractions: The numerator is less than denominator. (Proper fractions are less than 1.) Improper fractions: The numerator is greater than or equal to the denominator. (Improper fractions are greater than or equal to 1) Mixed numbers: They are the sum of a whole number and a fraction.
