The agency possesses a unique combination of technical expertise, global/geopolitical material supply analysis, and management & tracking of a broad range of existing & future critical materials. o DLA-SM is tasked with ensuring defense, industry, and essential civilian material needs are met during national emergencies. o The Strategic and Critical Materials Stockpiling Act requires DLA-SM to prepare a Biennial Report on Stockpile Requirements. o Projected supply and demand of materials and scenario assumptions. o USGS NMIC data and analysis are essential to the development of the Biennial Report. o NMIC commodity and country specialists work directly with DLA-SM to help them deliver on their objectives.
