Seeking Study Participants For more studies, turn to the other pages U of M SCHIZOPHRENIA PROGRAM: 612-627-4840 “Switch or Stay” Studies: These studies are sponsored by the NIMH Schizophrenia Trial Network (STN) to determine the benefit of changing medication. Adults diagnosed with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder will continue treatment with their regular providers and come to the U of MN research office seven times in a year-long study. Metabolic Study: Patients who are overweight with high cholesterol but not diabetes, currently taking Zyprexa, Risperdal, or Seroquel are needed for a STN sponsored trial called Comparison of Antipsychotics for Metabolic Problems (CAMP). The study will compare the effect of an individualized nutrition/exercise program with a switch of medication to Abilify over a 6 month period. Subjects must be 18-65 with a diagnosis of schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder. Antipsychotic medication, psychiatric care, metabolic testing, and the behavioral program all at not cost to participants. Long-Term Maintenance Study: Patient with schizophrenia currently taking medication who are mildly ill and age 18 or over, will be treated with an investigation drug for over 6 months, then if continue to be clinically stable, enter a placebo-controlled phase for another 6 months. Schizophrenia Brain Imaging Study at U of M: Volunteers are needed for a brain imaging study at the University of Minnesota, Medical School, Department of Psychiatry. If you have Schizophrenia or other related illnesses, and are between the ages of 18 and 60, you may be eligible for a MRI study. This is not a medication trial. A stipend is offered. Patients continue their medication (Risperdal, Seroquel, Zyprexa or Abilify), adding the drug or placebo. Flexible appointments are available. Study drug and lab tests at no cost to participants. Please contact the Schizophrenia Research Team and 612-627-4840 or [email protected] Psychosis Study: Participants ages 65 and older are needed for a six-week study to evaluate an investigational drug that is being studied to treat some psychiatric illnesses. If you or someone you know are over 65 years of age and are diagnosed with psychosis with symptoms such as delusions, hallucinations, excitement, hostility, or poor impulse control. Participants must have a caregiver or nurse to assist with study visits and must be willing to stay in the hospital or long term care facility for the first 8 days of the study. Please contact the Schizophrenia Research Team at 612-627-4840 or [email protected] Seeking Study Participants For more studies, turn to the other pages Borderline Personality Disorder Study Medication/Brain imaging study for females ages 18-45: This study is an open-label (no placebo) olanzapine PET scan study: This study involves 12 visits, 3 which are brain imaging scans. Participants will have a Baseline MRI scan and PET scan of their brains, then take olanzapine 2.5-7.5mg for the 1st 4 weeks, then maintain a dose of 7.5mg for the remaining 4 weeks. Participants will then have a repeat PET scan at the end of the 8 weeks. Participants need to be currently NOT taking any psychiatric medication or have active substance abuse. Anorexia Nervosa Diary Study: Female volunteers age 18 and older with symptoms of Anorexia Nervosa are needed for a study at the University of Minnesota. This is not a treatment study. Functional Brain Imaging Study: Researchers are looking to enroll volunteers ages 1019 with a schizophrenia spectrum disorder or individuals with no history of mental illness. Individuals will be asked to complete two sessions. During the first session we will conduct a thorough diagnostic interview. The second session involves mock scanning and a functional MR scan.
