Sedimentary Rocks


Broken rocks,
shells, mineral
grains, and other
materials are all
sediments.
All these sediments
collect in layers to
form sedimentary
rocks.
Metamorphic Rocks

Made by extreme pressure and/or heat


Igneous Rocks



These rocks are
formed from cooled
magma.
Magma is melted
rock deep inside
the earth.
Magma on the
crust of the earth
is called molten
lava.

What are Minerals?
Look at all

A mineral is a solid
material made of
one substance,
that occurs
naturally on Earth.
Most of the common
minerals are made
of crystals.
Gold
The first gold
rush in America
was in
Dahlonega, Ga.
Used to make
money and
jewelry.
in the 1830’s.
Calcite
Forms in cubes
and rectangular
prisms.
Used in
toothpaste, soap,
glue, and gum.
Talc
It is one of the
softest minerals.
Talcum Powder
Diamond
Hardest rock in
the world.
Used to make
jewelry.
Silver
One if man’s
favorites, shiny
and hard to find.
Used to make
jewelry and
coins.
