Q: Are the LED Downlights available in low voltage and line voltage or do I
need a step down transformer?
A: The standard Cantalupi CLL Downlight is available with an input voltage range of
10-30VDC or 20-30VDC. For the standard a step down transformer is required to
step down the line voltage from 110VAC to 24VDC. Line voltage drivers are now
available so please be specific when speaking with the Cantalupi Sales
Representative or contact a technical representative for assistance in the electrical
layout and design.
Q: I want to refit my existing halogen lighting system to LED, what is required
for the refit?
A: This question really depends on the components in the existing system. If the
existing system is low voltage (12/24VDC) then the only change besides the lights
would be the dimming controls if applicable. A CLL Dimmer Module will be required
to replace existing Triac dimmers and a momentary-on push button switch will be
needed to complete the dimming.
If the existing system has 12/24VAC then the voltage will have to be converted to
12/24VDC using a low voltage AC-DC power converter.
If the existing system is line voltage (110/220VAC), then there are 2 options, either
a step down transformer dropping the line voltage to 24VDC to drive the lights
and/or dimmers or another option is a line voltage driver. The line voltage drivers
meet the FCC Type A requirements meaning that they meet the requirements for use
in both marine and commercial applications but they are not dimmable.
Q: What is the color temperature of the Cantalupi CLL Downlights?
A: The standard color temperature is a Warm White at 3100 Kelvin and Cool White
of 6000 Kelvin. Cantalupi can change the color temperature if requested for a
specific Kelvin temperature range. Whether for a Neutral 5000 Kelvin or a 2800Kelvin to reproduce the “Halogen” look.
Q: Are the Cantalupi LED Downlights dimmable?
A: Yes, there are many possible dimming applications in both low voltage DC or
using line voltage 110VAC/220VAC. The low voltage dimming can either be done
using the Cantalupi CLL Dimmer Module or using a local dimmable driver at each
light. Discuss your needs with the sales representative and we will determine the
right solution for the application. The CLL Dimmer module comes with either a
single channel or three channels. The single channel dimmer has a 0-10V Analog
dimming option as well. The line voltage 110VAC/220VAC dimming is only available
for non-marine applications due to radio frequency interference issues.
Q: What type of switch do I need to dim the Cantalupi CLL Downlights?
A: If using a Cantalupi CLL Dimmer module then a momentary-on push button
switch will be wired to the dimmer. The single channel CLL Dimmer can be dimmed
using a 0-10V Analog Dimmer Switch.
Q: If using a step down transformer can I use a dimmer switch connected to
the input of the transformer to dim the lights?
A: NO, Cantalupi recommends and supplies Electronic Switch Mode power supplies
which do not function like the original magnetic power supplies that can be used to
dim halogen fixtures. The switch mode power supplies are much more efficient than
the magnetic and do not create any undesired RF emissions. The switch mode
power supplies are literally off when no load is present or the lights connected are
turned off.
Q: I have a Crestron Controller on my boat or in my residence; can the CLL
Downlights be controlled thru the Crestron?
A: YES, there are a few options when integrating with an existing control system.
The Cantalupi CLL 3-Channel dimmer module can be controlled over a DMX512
communication line which the Crestron, Lutron, and Litetouch systems have
available as an output. The integration is flawless with a simple line connection to
each dimmer module and short command strings to control the output of each
channel of the dimmer; these commands can also be included in preset scenarios.
Another option is the Cantalupi CLL 1-Channel dimmer, which has a 0-10V Analog
dimmer input function available, which could also be controlled by an automation
controller.
Q: This is my first experience with Cantalupi LED lighting, how will I know how
many lights I will need for my upcoming project?
A: Cantalupi USA offers complete design services including Lighting calculation
renderings involving lighting layout recommendations and quantities. We will
provide a complete Bill of Material, example schematics, and control specifications if
applicable.
Q: I am a lighting designer considering Cantalupi CLL Downlights in an
upcoming project, are Eulumdat files available for my use in lighting
calculation software like AGI32?
A: YES, IES files are available upon request.
Q: Which lights can be used in the United States for commercial/residential
projects?
A: There is a section on the website under the products area titled “Catalogs
ETL/UL”, this is a list of products that have been certified to meet the safety
standards as dictated by Underwriters Laboratory (UL). We are continuously going
thru the certification process on many of our products, so if the light is not on the
current list please check back on a regular basis as we are adding more products on
a weekly basis. Please check the “Coming Soon List” on the Cantalupi USA website
for a list of upcoming products to be certified.
Q: What is ETL?
A: ETL is a listing provided by Intertek whom tests and certifies products entering
the U.S. market against the standards dictated by UL. There are three recognized
certifications in the United States including ETL, UL, and CSA.
Q: What does class 2 certification indicate?
A: All of our LED products are class 2 circuits meaning that use low voltage during
operation below 55V and less than 100 VA of power. The transformers/ power
supplies used to power the lights must also be class 2 to meet the safety standards.
Q: Do the CLL Downlights require a recessed can?
A: NO, the lights have been certified “NON-IC”, so they can used in open air or inside
of an IC recessed can. NON-IC means that the light cannot come in direct contact
with insulation.
Q: Does Cantalupi provide a lighting control system?
A: YES, Cantalupi USA has a turnkey lighting control system using the latest
technology in Touch Screen PLC systems. The system is capable of but not limited to
basic lighting controls including dimming, fast scenario programming, RGB lighting
control, AC/DC motor control, and video monitoring.
Q: What is the Varilight RGB System?
A: The Varilight RGB is a touch screen controller with a base program to control
zones of the Cantalupi RGB Strip Lighting. The base program can have many
additions to the basic RGB functions including scripting for local push button
activation of the colors saved into memory, continuous looping of the colors, and
tuning of the entire White Kelvin Range. The possibilities are endless due to the
flexibility of the software programming; please consult Cantalupi technical
personnel for more information.
Q: Can the Anneava Switches be connected directly to Light Gangs
(Homeruns)?
A: NO, the switches have a breakdown capacity of 50mA so the switches must be
connected to Cantalupi Dimmer Modules, ESC200 Relay boards, or a series of relays
to protect the switch contacts.
Q: Do I have to use the Cantalupi Switches to control and dim my Cantalupi
lights and dimmers?
A: NO, any momentary-on push button can be used to control Cantalupi Lights. The
switches function with a single push the lights are on or off, by holding the switch
push button the lights will dim up and down to desired levels.
