BitLocker Drive Encryption Self-Installation
System Center 2012 R2 (SCCM) User Guide
An email was sent to you regarding self-installation of encryption software on your laptop.
IMPORTANT: Remember to save your work before running this process as it will require to reboot the
computer.
Please follow these instructions to install BitLocker Drive Encryption on your laptop in order to secure your
hard drive data.
1.
You will be prompted from the system tray that “New Software is Available”.
To open Software Center, click:

Click the checkbox next to Install U of C Encryption (Reboot Required) and then click Install
Selected.

The Status will change to installing, and a popup will say "Downloading and installing software".

A new window will pop up as part of the install process.

A prompt will indicate you must restart the computer. Click Restart Now. If you don't restart within
15 minutes, the computer will do so automatically. This is the point where saving your data is
critical.

After the reboot, log back into Windows, and the process will continue.

An Installation Progress window will appear with a progress bar.
If you click on the message it will show a percentage bar of the completed encryption.
8.
During the encryption process, you may notice that your overall hard drive capacity is greatly
reduced. This is temporary and will return to normal after the encryption.

You will receive a message when encryption is complete.

To check whether a laptop is encrypted, navigate to:
Start Menu Control Panel  System and Security  BitLocker Drive Encryption
