Role: Head of Biology, Director, Discovery Medicine Neuroinflammation DPU
Reports to: Head of Discovery Medicine, NI DPU
Location: Shanghai, China
Job Purpose:
This is a full-time position to support the mission of discovery and development of
transformative medicines addressing the unmet medical needs of neuroinflammatory
diseases exemplified by Multiple Sclerosis.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
 Lead Biology groups within NI DPU to generate key in vitro and in vivo data supporting
selection of clinical candidates
 Lead project teams within DPU and in matrix environment to bring clinical candidates to
FTIH
 Lead Biology and Pharmacology functions within NI DPU to support translational assays
and biology evidences to support developing assets through proof-of-concept studies
 Contribute to early clinical development strategy of DPU assets
 Work closely with DPU head and other leaders at NI DPU in overall DPU management,
including developing people, allocating resources to ensure DPU delivery
Qualifications/Requirements: (Education / Experience / Competencies)
The ideal candidate should have 15+ years of experiences working in the drug discovery and
development industry. Knowledge of CNS drug development, including preclinical study,
translational medicine and early clinical strategy plan is highly desirable. Previous experience in
managing preclinical studies and reporting them to support regulatory filing for Phase I and II
clinical trials is critical for this role. Past experiences of leading academic collaborations and
evaluating externally generated assets is also needed. The candidate should have demonstrated
ability to effectively motivate and lead teams in the report line and also teams in a matrix
environment.

Job Title: Director, Alzheimer’s disease research, Neurogeneration DPU
Job Purpose and Key Responsibilities:
 The role is needed to provide overall leadership and guidance to AD group within
Neurodegeneration DPU, based in Shanghai, China. The successful candidate is expected
to
• Develop research/operation strategies for AD drug discovery
• Lead a multi-disciplinary group to advance ND DPU pipeline, focusing on AD (from
target ID to clinical proof of concept)
• Direct, manage and develop a group of Ph.D. and master level scientists
Accountability:



Lead AD group to achieve multiple program milestone deliverables, including translational research
Key contributor for research/operation strategies in AD and other DPU functions
Manage AD group effectively to ensure support for career development, safe working environment and
compliance

Work closely with DPU head and other leaders in DPU/NSTAU to support organizational
objectives
Complexity:


Ability to navigate in a fast paced, dynamic and diverse environment with certain level of uncertainty
Effective people management and collaboration in a matrix setting
Specialised Knowledge:
Candidates are expected to have knowledge and multiple skills related to drug discovery in CNS diseases

Extensive CNS drug discovery experience,e.g. target identification/validation, assay development, lead
optimization, clinical candidate selection etc

Solid background in one or more areas of neuroscience research

Deep knowledge on neurodegenerative diseases, especially Alzheimer’s disease
Basic Requirements:





15+ years of neuroscience research in drug discovery settings after obtaining PhD
Strong publication record in neurosciences and related fields
Demonstrated leadership skills in matrix environment
Ability to lead academic/external collaborations as well as evaluate business development opportunities
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Preferred Requirements:

Knowledge/experience in translation research and early clinical development is highly desirable.
