Objective: to understand RNA
and transcription and translation

To decode DNA it needs to be changed
into RNA
The purpose of DNA is to instruct the
cell to make amino acids which
connect to make proteins
RNA- ribonucleic acid
3 differences:
The sugar is ribose (not deoxyribose)
Normally single stranded (not double)
Contains Uracil (not Thymine)
3 types of RNA
Messenger RNA- carry copies of
instructions from DNA to the rest of the
cell
Ribosomal RNA- at the ribosome (where
proteins are formed)
Transfer RNA- transfers amino acids to
ribosome as it is coded by the mRNA
Transcription- copying DNA into RNA
Genetic Code- each 3 letters of RNA is
a codon which can be translated into
a specific amino acid
