How to make an Earth Layer’s Study Guide
NOTE – Please follow the directions carefully!
1. Color the four layers using this guide:
Inner Core – Red
Outer Core – Orange
Lower Mantle – Light Green
Middle Mantle – Yellow
Upper Mantle – Dark Green
Oceanic Crust – Dark Brown
Continental Crust – Light Brown
Ocean – Blue
2. Fill out the small squares with the correct information for each of the main layers of Earth,
using your textbook.
3. Cut out the layers. Cut out the small squares. Cut out the title.
4. Set the piece of construction paper in front of you – tall length. Glue the title in the bottom
left corner of your construction paper.
5. Glue the crust on the paper at the top of the paper, centered.
6. Glue the mantle below the crust, leaving a cm in between the layers.
7. Glue the outer core below the mantle, leaving a cm in between the layers.
8. Glue the inner core below the outer core, leaving a cm in between the layers.
9. Glue the 4 small squares on the paper, next to the corresponding layers.
10. Using a black pen or marker, complete the bracket that connects the two sections of the
lithosphere. ASK me if you are not sure where to do this.
11. Label the study guide using the following terms (asthenosphere, continental crust,
convection currents, crust, inner core, lithosphere, lower mantle, middle mantle, ocean, oceanic
crust, outer core, upper mantle)
12. Put your name at the top or bottom, wherever you have the most space.
13. Show me your finished product in order to get credit for your hard work.
Use your study guide to answer the questions on the next sheet.
