ADJECTIVE?
So, what is an
ADJECTIVE ?
An ADJECTIVE is a word used to describe
a Noun or Pronoun
It provides more description and detail about a:
PERSON, PLACE, THING, or IDEA
An ADJECTIVE is one of the 8 parts of speech.

PREDICATE ADJECTIVES are in the predicate and
follow a ‘be’ verb, and they tell more about the subject.
Examples:
That student is smart!
My brothers are fast.
Those fish are shiny.
Her dinner was cold.
Why should we use specific
and interesting ADJECTIVES
in our writing? – which sounds better:
“The Italian food was tasty."
- or “Like a starved mongrel, I devoured the
feathery strands of fettuccini and sopped
up the thick, creamy sauce with a crispy
breadstick. I could barely keep from
licking my plate."
Why should we use specific
and interesting ADJECTIVES
in our writing? – which sounds better:
The first example’s not very exciting, is it? It
gives the basics of the sentence, but there
are few interesting adjectives.
Customize this editing technique to your
writing. If you find yourself using ‘nice’,
‘wonderful’, ‘delicious’, ‘tasty’, and
‘yummy’, try to use more specific and
interesting adjectives instead.
How can using specific and
interesting ADJECTIVES
help you?
• Communicating your ideas clearly
• Demonstrating you have control
over your writing
• Making your writing
more exciting &
fun to read
What do we think of authors
or writers who use the same
old dull ADJECTIVES?
• They do not proofread.
• They are lazy
(and probably boring).
• They do not take the time
to re-read their work.
• They don’t care if the
reader enjoys their writing
Knowing the Parts of
Speech IS Important!!!
• For knowledge
• For a job
• For education
• For clarity
• For communication
