Modern Post Top Luminaire Range
Specifications
Modern post top luminaire range designed for general area lighting where good
optical control is required in conjunction with modern architecture.
The luminaire shall consist of a spigot base, top casting, glare shield, lamp compartment
with integral control gear and diffuser that shall be held in position by three extruded
aluminium tie bars. It shall be designed to operate compact fluorescent, 80/125 mercury
vapour or 70/100 Watt high pressure sodium / metal halide lamps.
The luminaire shall bear the SANS 475 mark and the SANS 60598-2-3 safety mark.
Luminaire spigot entries shall comply with SANS 1088 - Table 1 for Type 2:
ø76mm x 75mm
The luminaire shall have a degree of protection that complies with SANS 60598-2-3:
Lamp compartment: IP65
The IP rating shall be certified by a SABS test report.
Both the top cover and 650mm diameter glare shield shall be robustly constructed,
weatherproof, hailproof, corrosion proof and vandal resistant. They shall be manufactured
from high pressure die cast aluminium, powder coated for added protection in the colour
specified, with the underside of the glare shield being white for added reflectivity.
The spigot base shall be manufactured from high pressure die cast aluminium, powder
coated for added protection in the colour specified. The luminaire shall be secured to the
pole by three M8 stainless steel grub screws.
The diffuser shall be manufactured from non-discolouring clear high-impact acrylic. It shall
be seamless and smooth on both the inside and outside.
OPTICS - BEKASHINE
The optical system used in conjunction with the clear diffuser version shall consist of a bead
blasted aluminium louvre system, providing quality low level lighting and glare control.
OPTICS – BEKASHINE-NOUVELLE
The optical system shall consist of a post anodised reflector. It shall reflect the light
produced by the lamp onto a super-pure spun aluminium inverted cone, mounted to the top
casting. This shall provide a cut-off distribution at 80°, with the lamp source not visible
from any elevation angle below 90°. Four horizontally mounted rings, finished to
specification, shall encircle the indirect optical system.
The control gear shall be incorporated inside the luminaire and shall be mounted on a
removable gear tray. It shall be suitable for operation with the specified rating of the lamp
on a 230V +3%/-10% 50 Hz single phase system. All screws, bolts and metal parts shall be
stainless steel or anti-corrosion treated material. Mains connections shall be by means of a
suitable screw terminal block with a wire clamping contact. Ignitors, where applicable, shall

be of the superposed pulse type. The luminaire shall be power factor corrected to a
minimum of 0,9.
