Han Dynasty
The Han dynasty built on the foundations of the Qin. After
the fall of the Qin in 206 B.C. there was civil war. Liu
Bang became king of Han and took the title of first emperor
of the Han dynasty in 206B.C.
The Han dynasty is divided into three periods; the Western
Han which lasted from 206 B.C. to A.D.9, followed by a
short interregnum during which Wang Mang ruled China until
A.D. 23, the Liu family reasserted itself as the Eastern
Han dynasty and ruled until A.D. 220.
Western Han
Gaodi, the first Han emperor, retained the Qin
administrative system, many of their laws and their
capital. Under the Han dynasty there was the gradual
development of the civil service and structure of central
and provincial government. Government monopolies of mining
and coinage, salt and iron provided revenues for the state.
State factories produced many objects, including things for
daily use.
This was a period of expansion for the empire, with the
empire moving into areas of Korea, Vietnam and Central
Asia. This expansion was followed by the opening up of the

Eastern Han
The Han dynasty was restored in AD25 by Liu Xiu. He moved
the capital to Luoyang.
Buddhism was introduced to China at some time during this
period. However it did not gain a significant following
until the Tang dynasty. xxxx xxxx
