Islam has made headlines in negative ways throughout the last century, and especially seems to
be spreading rapidly all over the world.
It has always been a militant religion, and, thus, violent.
There are those that try to tell us it is really a “religion of peace.”
What is the truth?
Why study this religion of violence and hate? (I Jn. 4:1)
A. Over time there have been three revelations (even more, but less prominent) claiming to
be from God.
B. Knowing that God is not a God of confusion (I Cor. 14:33), and that John tells us to “test
the spirits” to see if they are from God (I Jn. 4:1), it is prudent to study such things!
1. There are three books that claim to be direct revelation from God:
a. The Bible – multiple writers (40) over hundreds of years (approx.. 1500)
b. The Koran – one man (author) in his lifetime and others beyond
c. The Book of Mormon – one man (author) in his lifetime
2. They all teach vastly different messages and display different aspects of God.
C. The Qur’an (Koran) and Book of Mormon have a defining characteristic: both were
authored by one man, and in the Koran’s case, it was completed 70-200 years after
Mohammed’s death.
Let us look at the rise of Islam through history and decide between God or Allah!
Brief Background: Rise of Islam
A. Muhammad (570 – 632 A.D.)
1. Born in Mecca in 570 A.D. to a merchant family.
2. Was orphaned, but grew up to become a caravan manager in contact with Jews &
Christians.
3. Married a rich widow named Khadija (1st wife).
4. Bothered by class inequalities & rivalries.
5. Began preaching in Mecca in 610 A.D. Forced to flee to Medina (Yathrib) in 622. Called
the Hijra (i.e. “flight”).
6. Claimed to experience visions and was visited by the angel Gabriel.
7. Came to believe that he received the final revelations of Allah (God), that Allah had
called him to declare that there is only one god.
B. Conquering of Mecca
1. 630 A.D.: Muhammad (Age 60) conquers Mecca & declares the Kaaba a holy shrine.
2. He removes the tribal idols, but keeps the Black Stone.
3. Muhammad becomes the religious and political leader.
C. Why was Islam Attractive?
1. Equality (He preached a message of no class distinctions despite wealth)
2. No intermediaries
3. End to vendettas feuds
4. Single authority (Like Cyrus the Great, before him, he united the Arab tribes!)
D. Spread of Islam
1. Muhammad dies in 632 A.D. (Aged 62) at his wife Aisha's home in Medina, and he was
lowered into a hole in the ground, where he remains.
2. Left no clear successor or heir.
3. The position of Caliph (Muslim leader) is established (Similar to Catholic Pope).
4. Abu Bakr (1st Caliph): close friend/father-in-law, 1st to convert outside of family.
5. Sought to protect and spread Islam (Persia Byzantine Empire).
1
E. The 5 Pillars of Islam
1. Profession of Faith (Shahada)
a. There is no God but Allah, and Mohammed is His Prophet
2. Prayer (Salat)
a. Practiced five times a day, according to a set ritual.
3. Almsgiving (Zakat)
a. One traditionally donates a portion of one’s income.
4. Fasting (Sawm)
a. Done during daylight hours in the month of Ramadan (9th month of Islamic
year).
5. Pilgrimage (Hajj)
a. A pilgrimage to the Kaaba at Mecca is made once during one’s lifetime.
F. Divisions Within Islam
1. Shortly after 1st Caliph’s death rival groups begin competing for the Caliphate
2. The 4th Caliph (Ali) was assassinated – 661 AD
3. Ali’s rival (Marwan I) begins the Umayyad dynasty as the new caliph
4. Capital is moved from Medina to Damascus
5. Led to a split in Islam (661 AD)
6. Sunnis, supported political succession (Umayyad dynasty)
a. Believed the caliph (especially first 4) was primarily a leader and any devout
Muslim could serve in the office with the acceptance of the people
b. 90% of Muslims today are Sunnis (http://historynewsnetwork.org/article/934)
7. Shiites, supported religious succession (Muhammad’s/Ali’s bloodline)
a. Believed the caliph was primarily a religious authority and should be held only
by the descendants of Muhammad (or the 4th Caliph, Ali)
b. 10% of Muslims today are Shiites (http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middleeast-25434060)
G. Muhammad claimed to receive revelations from God, and his message spread all over the world,
but mostly at the point of a sword in jihad (“Holy War”) – is the Qur’an from God?
II.
The Qur’an (Koran)
A. During the life of Muhammad his companions & wives wrote down his teachings.
B. After his death these were collected and compiled in an official edition ordered by the Caliph
Othman a little over a decade after his death.
C. These teachings, called the Qur’an (Koran) are viewed as the holy book and word of God by
Muslims. (Though the final version would take another 70-200 years to complete)
D. Islam means “submission.” One who follows Islam is a Muslim, meaning “one who submits.”
E. The Qur’an says the Torah and the Gospels are true and that Muslims are to adhere to them! (This
causes what is known as the “Islamic Dilemma” – More later)
1. 5:68 - Say “O People of the Book! ye have no ground to stand upon unless ye stand fast
by the Law (Torah), the Gospel (Injeel), and all the revelation that has come to you from
your Lord.”
2. 29:46 Muslims are told by Allah, not to question the authority of the Scriptures of the
Christians, saying, “And dispute ye not with the People of the Book, but say, “We believe
in the revelation which has come down to us and in that which came down to you Our
Allah and your Allah is one.”
F. The Qur’an, though considered the final authority, is not the only source of guidance.
1. Because it wasn’t finished in Muhammad’s lifetime, there were oral traditions and other
sources, such as Muslim and the Hadith.
2. The Muslim Qur'an and Muslim Hadith are unique among all the sacred writings in the
entire world -- because they alone counsel its followers to make war on unbelievers.
(“Verse of the Sword” – 9:5: Trumps verses of peace)
Islam Pt. 1: God Or Allah?
2
3. Both Muslim holy books (Qur'an and Hadith) contain commands for Muslims to
subjugate the world, militarily. Muhammad commanded Muslims to spread Islam
through Offensive Jihad (“Holy War”) or conquest of non-Muslim lands. Muslims are
also commanded to take back any land that was formerly Muslim (Israel).
4. Killing is Welcome in Islam - even of brother Muslims. “Allah's Apostle said, “Allah
welcomes two men with a smile; one of whom kills the other and both of them enter
Paradise. One fights in Allah's Cause and gets killed. Later on Allah forgives the 'killer
who also get martyred (In Allah's Cause)” (Hadith, Volume 4, Book 52, Number 80i,
Narrated by Abu Huraira).
5. This is a very important matter. We often wonder how Muslims kill each other and both
parties scream “Jihad” as they kill each other. Muhammad says that Allah is happy to see
them BOTH killing each other. The cause is not the point-- just kill, kill, kill.
G. Herein lies a contradiction: God never told Christians to kill or to force conversion!
1. Muslims: “I will kill for my belief!”
2. Christians: “I will die for my belief.”
3. Mt. 5:44; Lk. 6:27, 35: Jesus said to “love your enemies” and do good to those who hate
you. He also said to pray for those who persecute you. He didn’t say to kill them!
4. Jn. 18:36: Jesus said His kingdom wasn’t of this world or else His disciples would be
fighting!
5. II Cor. 10:3-4; Eph. 6:10-18: “We do not war according to the flesh!” Our battles are
spiritual, not fleshly!
6. Jn. 8:44; Rev. 21:8: Jesus said Satan is a murderer and those who murder are of their
father the Devil! Murderers will not enter Heaven!
H. Islam doesn't even have an original Qur'an. The oldest Qur'an dates from around 790 A.D. (in the
British Library) – That's 158 years after Muhammad’s death.
1. It was made up supposedly from “memory” and a few scraps found under his favorite
wife’s bed (his child-bride Aisha).
2. Some verses quoted by early sources are not even in the Qur’an because:
3. Muhammad's favorite wife (Aisha was 18 when he died) said this after Muhammad died,
“The verse of the stoning and of suckling an adult ten times were revealed, and they were
(written) on a paper and kept under my bed. When the messenger of Allah expired and
we were preoccupied with his death, a goat entered and ate away the paper.” (To this day,
never added to Qur’an)
4. What else wasn’t added because of a Qur’an eating goat?
I. The Qur’an can’t even agree with itself, which proves it was written by man and not God!
III.
God or Allah?
A. It is often asserted that Allah, the God of Islam, is the same God as the God of the Old
Testament and the New Testament. (Allah = Arabic word for God)
B. Moon worship has been practiced in Arabia since 2000 B.C. The crescent moon is the
most common symbol of this pagan moon worship as far back as 2000 B.C.
1. In Mecca, there was a god named Hubal (moon god) who was Lord of the Kaaba.
2. A symbol of the crescent moon is on top of every mosque at the Kaaba today and
the central symbol of Islam atop of every mosque throughout the world.
C. Is God the same as Allah?
1. I Kings 18:21: Elijah challenged the people to choose between God or Baal.
2. The Qur’an says God and Allah are one - “Say: ‘We believe in God [Allah], and
in what has been revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Ismail; Isaac,
Jacob and in the Tribes, and in (the books) given to Moses, Jesus and the
Prophets, from their Lord we make no distinction between one and another...”
(3:84).
3. Paul’s teaching to the Galatians (Gal. 1:6-9):
a. Paul teaches that to accept different truths is to accept a different gospel.
b. Scriptures teach that no other true gospel will come (Jude 3).
4. Islam rejects the deity of Jesus (Colossians 1:15; 2:9).
Islam Pt. 1: God Or Allah?
3
a. 5:72, 116: The Qur’an says Jesus never equated himself with God, for if
He had He wouldn’t be a true prophet of Allah!
b. Footnote 722 of 5:72 says Jesus renounced his divinity in Mt. 4:10 when
He said, “You shall worship the Lord your God and Him only shall you
serve.”
c. The Scriptures plainly teach He is God in the flesh (Phil. 2:5-8).
5. Islam says Jesus did not die on the cross (3:54; 4:157)
a. 4:157 (645) says because He prayed the night before and there is the
promise that God hears the righteous, God would not allow the Jews to
kill Jesus, but it only looked liked He was dead!
b. Islam has proven to be false because Muhammad claimed the Gospel is
true, and all 4 Gospels (Injeel) testify that Jesus died and rose from the
dead!
c. In addition to the writers of the 4-Gospels, Josephus, the Jewish 1st
century general and historian affirmed it! (Antiquities 18.3.3)
D. 6:34, 6:115, 10:64 and 50:28-29 clearly says to Muslims, “No change can there be in the
words of Allah” and that Allah cannot alter (or abrogate) his words.” So the Torah and
Gospels are correct, because Allah did verify this fact (5:68) -- this clearly makes the
Muslim Qur'an false because it contradicts Allah!
1. Is. 55:11: God said His words would accomplish all that He set out to do.
2. Jer. 36:23-32: When King Jehoiakim burned the scroll, God didn’t say, “Oh
well!” He ordered a new scroll written and pronounced judgment on the king.
3. Allah allowed a goat to eat his word and thus alter his words despite his promise
to the contrary!
E. Islam claims that Allah is the same God who was revealed in the Bible. . . . then if the
Bible and the Qur'an have differing views of God, then Islam's claim is false.
1. Muhammad claimed that Allah confirmed the Torah (Taurat) and Christian
Gospel (Injeel) (2:87, 5:46, 5:68, 29:46 and 43:63).
2. So, if the Torah and Gospel are correct, all the errors in the Qur'an make the
Qur'an false!
F. Allah is a different god as the Galatians’ gospel was a different gospel!

V.
Muslims, through the teaching of the Qur’an and other sources, deny Jesus as deity!
A. Mt. 10:32-33: Jesus warned that if you deny Him, He will deny you before the Father.
1. Muslims falsely believe they have “this base” covered because they show
reverence to Jesus as a “great Prophet” only.
B. I John 2:22-23: “Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is
the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. Whoever denies the Son does
not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also.”
C. I John 5:12: “He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does
not have the life.”
In testing the spirits to see if they are from God (I Jn. 4:1), man today, like Elijah & the Israelites
on Mt. Carmel so long ago (I Kings 18), need to see through the lies & obey God and serve Him!
If not a Christian, you need to be! Repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of sins!
If a Christian in sin, don’t wait till it’s eternally too late! Repent and be renewed!
Whatever your requests, let them be made known NOW while we stand & sing!

 In Islam, theologians divide the Qur'an into the Meccan and Medinan suras. They say to note that
the peaceful sounding verses come while Muhammad was living in Mecca toward the beginning
of his career as a terrorist, when he was busy calling Meccans to his service. The later suras came
after Muhammad left Mecca and went to Medina. It was during this later period when he went
wild with rape, plunder, and cold-hearted murders.
 So in Islam --the later warring and killing of infidel type verses (suras) like the “Verse of the
Sword” (9:5) take precedence over the earlier peaceful-sounding versus. Islamic theologians say
that the more than 124 peaceful sounding verses are abrogated by the “Verse of the Sword.” This
all ties in to the Muslim idea of abrogation. A respected Islamic commentator popularly known as
Ibn Kathir who lived from 1301-1372 AD says that sura 9:5 “abrogated every agreement of peace
between the Prophet and any idolator, every treaty, and every term.”
