Origins of Islam -Islam's origins can be traced back to Muhammad. -Muhammad was dissatisfied with the way people acted. -He was visited by an angel in A.D. 610 that told him to preach Islam. -Islam means “surrendering to the will or Allah”(Allah is the Arabic word for god. Muhammed’s Message • 1. Only worship God, the one true god. • 2. Wealth not as important as leading a good life. • 3. Good people are rewarded and evildoers are punished. • 4.God considered to be the creator. • 5.Obey God's laws if you want to be blessed in the afterlife. Muhammed’s Message • 6. Honor your parents. • 7. Show kindness to your neighbors. • 8. Give to the poor. • 9. Murder, lying and stealing are • forbidden. The Origins of the Qur’an Muhammed started to preach the way of Allah. 622 Hijrah Muhammed flees Mecca for Medina. His soldiers conquered Makkah in A.D. 630 and made it the holy city.
