Glycolysis
1. What Happens to the glucose in glycolysis and where does this happen?
2. What serves as the electron carriers in glycolysis? What is added to these electron carriers from the
split of glucose?
3. At the end of glycolysis how much NET ATP is made? How much pyruvate and how much NADH?
Krebs
1. The 2 ______________ from glycolysis have the original 6 ___________ _________ from the glucose
2. Where is the pyruvate sent for further breakdown to get more of its energy?
3. What are the 2 main things that ultimately happen to the pyruvate as it gets broken down?
4. ADDING WATER to break apart Oxaloacetate makes it what type of reaction?
5. In the Krebs cycle, what happens to the Acetyl-CoA? (it gets turned into what things)
6. What is the second type of electron carrier involved in the Krebs Cycle and what is it carrying ?
7. What happens to all 6 of the Carbon atoms that were originally in the glucose?
8. How much net ATP was made during Krebs? What represents most of the energy for the cell?
9. What happens to all the H+ and e- stored in the FADH2 and NADH? Where do FAD+ and NAD+ go
once they’ve lost their electrons? How is this similar to what we saw in photosynthesis?
10. On a cellular level, how do you build endurance from exercise?
Electron Transport Chain
1. What’s made in glycolysis and Krebs cycle that’s used in the ETC to make most of the ATP?
2. Which membrane holds the proteins of the ETC?
3. What do NADH and FADH2 donate to ETC?
4. As electrons move through proteins across the membrane, what is their energy used for? (VERY
similar to photosynthesis /LDR)
5. At the end of ETC, what comes and grabs the “used” electrons? After it grabs the electrons, what else
does it attach with to make?
6. How do the H+ protons exit the inter-membrane space? What do they help make on their way
out?(Almost IDENTICAL to photo./LDR)?
7. What happens to NAD+ after ETC?
8. All the energy stored in the bonds of ATP at the end of CR were ORIGINALLY stored in the bonds of
what molecule?
9. Explain why cyanide is such a fast/deadly poison?
