Traditional Chinese Medicine – TCM info for patients Chinese Medicine views the patient’s health as a whole and therefore all Anatomical and Physiological functions being in relationship to each other…. with an energetic - insubstantial energy known as Qi – Chi, a Yang type energy relating to activity of Organ function and substantial energy known as Yin type energy relating to substance and formation of cells, Organs, Blood and body fluids. When there is enough Qi - ‘chi ‘ flowing within the Channels or Meridians to and from the Organs without obstruction, their function is supreme with Blood and Body fluids/Yin, therefore, Homeostasis may occur. Disharmony - Pathology occurs when there is either Deficiency of Qi, yang, blood, body Fluids – Yin substances to the Organs for functionality or an Excess of these which may cause Obstruction and or Accumulation. Acupuncture as a very fine tool, touches one’s Qi – energy or life force, tonifying Deficiencies by needling specific points on the body to activate - stimulate Qi flow via the Channels – Pathways – Meridians to the blood, cells, tissues and Organs. Respectively if there is an Excess of Qi, yang, blood, body fluids – Phlegm and dampness which are Yin in nature may obstruct and accumulate in the channels and Organs causing Qi stagnation, blood stasis, oedema - fluid retention, hyper activity of Yang function and often heat which may overtime congeal blood; all of which may cause Pain. By needling specific points on the channels – pathways, relative to the Organs ie. the Kidney pathway stemming from the Kidneys form and functionality the body is reminded of it’s innate blueprint - way of being and it’s ability to function and heal itself. In TCM Climatic factors such as Wind, Cold, Damp, Dry and Heat are recognized as Excess Pathogenic factors invading the Channels and Organs by Wind which obstruct flow and function and may accumulate causing Qi stagnation and blood stasis and Yin and Yang natured pathogenic conditions. Cold overtime can turn to heat, damp overtime can turn to Phlegm and can linger in the system as Latent pathogens causing Painful Obstruction Syndromes in the channels and sinews. Diagnosis is achieved by gathering Signs and Symptoms relating to a particular energetic nature and function of an Organ and it’s respective Qi and blood flow in the Channel, according to the Eight Simplistic Principles : External - Internal, Yin - Yang, Deficiency – Excess, Cold - Heat particularly pertaining to a Pattern of a Yin or Yang Organ. • Therefore Acupuncture is able to treat not only the Branch manifestations arising along a Channel - Pathway, but also a deeper disharmony - Pathology stemming from a Root disharmony, within the Organ form and function. Observing the Tongue allows us to see the state of the body fluids in respect to dampness Accumulation, cold and heat to name just a few aspects. • Medications in TCM are recognized as having energetic natures in respect of Fire, Heat, Warm, Cold and Damp, which can cause disharmony in the Channels and Organs form and functions. During consultations, we therefore take into account the need to support Organ function and counteract Heat and Cold in the system, while a patient is on any Medications. Foods and Herbs are also considered to have an energetic nature of Fire, Heat, Dry, Warm, Pungent, Sweet, Neutral, Cold, and Damp. As stated above, all Qi, Yang, blood, body fluids, Yin, Channels and Organ functions are in relation to each other, so sometimes manifestations can appear along a Channel distally from an Organ and it’s anatomical region. In Summary : • Key to this and the beauty of Acupuncture is that due to the relationships of Energy, not only the Physical is treated but also the Spirit, Mind and the Emotions are treated on a deep level; as far as Excesses causing Obstruction and Accumulation and Deficiencies causing Diminished function. The patient therefore has the opportunity to make clearer Lifestyle choices as far as possible Stressors, Climatic factors, Diet and Trauma/injuries, Self medication habits ie. Alcohol, Drugs, Coffee, Sugar, Medicines. TCM views the Heart as the Supreme Controller and houses the Mind - Shen, the Spirit. How a patient’s boundaries and protection of one’s own Heart is considered. • A Four week protocol is available for treatment, which clears the patient’s Heart Protectors, all pertaining to the Fire Element and allows clearer boundaries : San Jiao – the body’s thermostat and the Great Wall of China protecting the Empire, San Jiao – Yang organ asks, “is it safe to engage with this person?” Pericardium – the Hearts physical protector – Yin organ, the inner gate and drawbridge to the castle; deciding on who comes in and out, Pericardium asks re – intimacy, “ am I open or am I closed?” Small Intestine – the Yang organ partner to the Heart and the separator of pure and impure on a physical and mental/emotional level, last port of call about who is allowed in to see the Supreme Controller on official business, the advisor who only delivers the truth and asks, “ what is your business with the King or Queen today?” This enables the Practitioner and Patient to get to the Heart of the Matter, the patient’s truth and clarifies the ‘patient’s story’ versus the ‘body story.’ Crystallizing DNA Preventative Medicine Freedom and peace 021 2010 738 20 Shona Lane Preston Downs West Melton 7618 03 2600 738 021 2010 738 Crystallizing DNA Preventative Medicine Freedom and peace 021 2010 738 20 Shona Lane Preston Downs West Melton 7618 03 2600 738 021 2010 738
