Dear Pastor Johnson,
The event planned is to take place on October 29, 2016. This will be an on campus event at
Good Shepherd LCMS in Slidell. The event will tie in an Oktoberfest theme with a celebration of the
499th anniversary of the Reformation and will be a fundraising event to benefit the Equestrian Therapy
Center of Slidell.
The Equestrian Therapy Center of Slidell is operated by Dr. Beverly Stubblefield, PhD. She is
Christian therapist and is fully licensed as a psychotherapist. Her non-profit organization will us e
donated funds to provide no cost and low cost equestrian therapy sessions for children in need. These
children are those who by no fault of their own could not otherwise receive these services and many are
victims of divorce, physical, and/or emotional abuse. Some are the children of incarcerated parents. The
miracle of equestrian therapy is that these children learn from controlling a massive animal such as a
horse, that there are things in their lives that they can control despite the things they can’t.
The event itself is still being planned, but as it is now, I will be brewing a special “Reformation
Ale” titled “Maybe Katie” as in maybe Katie (Martin Luther’s Wife) brewed a beer like this for Martin
Luther. This beer will be sampled free of charge at the event along with a history of brewing as it
pertains to Martin Luther, his enjoyment of beer, and some of his quotes regarding same. The food at
the event will be German as well and I am in the process of finding a polka band for entertainment.
Funds will be raised through giving of tickets with a requested (not required) donation, a raffle, and a
silent auction. As of now, the volunteer staff for the event is about twelve members of our
congregation.
As always, your support and guidance on outreach and other activities is both welcome and
appreciated. Please call me with any questions and/or concerns you may have.
