Photosynthesis
Plants are autotrophs. This means they make
their own food. This process is called
Photosynthesis. Photosynthesis happens in the
plant’s leaves.
1. Photosynthesis uses light energy from the
Sun. Plants die if they have no light.
2. The leaves contain a green chemical called
chlorophyll, which absorbs light energy.
3. The roots absorb water from the soil. The water goes to the leaves.
4. The carbon dioxide goes into the leaf through tiny holes. The holes are
called stomata.
5. The leaves use light energy, carbon dioxide and water to make glucose. It
is the plant’s food.
6. The sap transports the food around the plant.
7. The waste product of photosynthesis is oxygen.
