Definition
A symbol, usually a letter, which is used to represent
one or more numbers.

Algebraic
Expression
Term
An expression consisting of numbers and operations.
( +, -, x, ÷ )
An expression consisting of at least one variable and
also consist of numbers and operations.
A number, a variable, or a product of a number and a
variable.
(+, - signs separate terms)
The number part of a term that includes a variable.
The number multiplied by the variable.
A quantity having a fixed value that does not change or
vary, such as a number. A number that is constantly
alone!
A mathematical sentence formed by setting two
expressions equal.
A mathematical sentence formed by placing an
inequality symbol such as
<, >, >, <, between two expressions.
The number used as a factor when raised to a power.
Tells how many times to multiply the base times itself.

Like terms
The exponent tells how many times the base is raised to
a power.
The sum or product of numbers will not change when
the order changes.
The sum or product of numbers will not change when
the grouping changes
The sum of a number and 0 is that number. The
product of a number and 1 is that number.
If you multiply a sum by a number, you will get the
same result as if you multiply each addend by that
number and then add the products.
Rules for evaluating expressions. Parenthesis,
Exponents, Multiply/Divide, Add/Subtract
Solve
Terms with the same variable raised to the same
exponent/power.
4 3 , “four to the
third power”
8+7=7+8
9  3 = 3 9
9+(6+5) = (9+6)+5
5  (4  3) =
(5  4)  3
8+0=8
15  1 = 15
8(4 + 5) =
8(4) + 8(5)
PEMDAS
x+3=2
-3 -3
x = -1
3y, y, -4y
