Biology Virus Project
Name:__________________
You are going to create a virus poster and corresponding model. All text should be word
processed and all pictures computer generated. You must clear your virus with me before
proceeding. If you are also in Dr. McAdoo’s math class, then you MUST do a virus that is in a
icosohedral shape.
The following things will be graded:
Virus Poster
/3
Classification of virus (scientific name and family)
/2
Disease caused
/4
Proteins
(both capsid and non-capsid)
/2
Labeled Diagram
(make sure it matches your model)
/2
Host
(picture of normal and infected hosts)
/3
Mode of infection
(possible picture, how virus gets into body, body system &
individual cells)
/2
Symptoms
(what system(s) is/are attacked? How does it malfunction under attack?)
/2
Cure/Prevention
(if a vaccine is available, what kind, how does it work? If not how
is one made well after contracting the virus)
Virus Model
/5
Capsid proteins
(should show names if applicable and repeating subunits)
/5
Non-capsid proteins (where are they found? What do they do? Names?)
/5
nucleic acid
(DNA/RNA? ss/ds?)
/4
envelope/spikes
(other coverings that are not capsids and their purpose(s))
/3
misc.
(varies depending on virus chosen)
/3
sturdiness & aesthetic appeal

DUE: _____
Due to Murphy’s Law, (and in order to avert technical difficulties, computer glitches, time warps, black holes, gremlins, natural and unnatural disasters) please
do not wait until the last minute to complete or print your project. Late projects are assessed 10% per day.

What vector does it use to get from host to host?)
