Speak slowly the words: do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti-do. Explain that pattern is one used to name pitches in a scale. Listen for it in this song. Play "Do-Re-Mi." 2. Sing the song with the recording. 3. Discuss that the pattern moves upward by steps. Draw a set of 8 steps on the board to show example of movement. Put the notes on the steps then transfer using this process to the music staff. Put the words do-re-mi on the steps. 4. Show the Kerwin hand signs for the sol-fa syllables and have the children participate with the song. When all can perform the hand signs well have them accompany the song with the hand signs. 5. Have students identify other places in the song where they hear the step pattern performed, but not completed. Discuss what notes occur on the dore-mi patterns. 6. Using solfege and hand signs take students through a range of repeats, leaps and steps 7. Show the scale pattern on a set of bells. Have students follow the pattern as teacher leads. Allow them to accompany the song. Evaluation Essential Question-What three ways does music move? Exit Pass- Listen to the song as the students perform the silly movements while they line up.
