Transcript
Heat energy can pass through solids, liquids and gases. Heat energy can
be transferred from hot areas to cool areas in 3 ways.
The 3 methods are
conduction, convection and radiation.
Conduction
This is the movement of heat energy from hotter parts to
cooler parts without any movement of the substance itself.
1- What happens to a metal rod when it is place in hot water?

3- Can you explain why? Try to use words like particles, energy,
transfer in your answer.

Convection
This is the transfer of heat through the movement of particles
from hotter parts to cooler parts.
1-Draw a diagram to show what happens when water is heated.
Radiation
This is the transfer of heat energy by waves. This type of
energy transfer can travel through space.
1-Why can you feel the heat from a fire when sat near it?

2- Why will an ice-cream melt in the sunshine?

3- Why should we wear a hat in cold weather to keep warm?

Describe and explain how we can stop heat escaping from
our homes. What are the different methods of insulation
and how do they stop heat from escaping?
